What is hypnosis?

How can hypnosis help me?

Why are some people afraid of hypnosis?

Unfortunately, many people have indeed experience with a one-sided and inaccurate notion of hypnosis, which is often a consequence of the popular visual media. Hypnosis shows, in which volunteers are put on display, do not explain the therapeutic potential of hypnosis and are mainly designed to make the hypnotist appear powerful and to present hypnosis in a spectacular and sensationalistic manner. The achieved effects have nothing in common with hypnosis work. On the contrary, they reinforce false assumptions about hypnosis: Relating it to unconsciousness and being at the mercy of the hypnotist.
 
Forget everything you may have ever seen about hypnosis in films or entertainment shows. It is just a prodigious myth that people can by hypnotized against their will or without even knowing it or that questionable behavior patterns (i.e., desire to kill, etc.) can be implemented. These notions belong to the phantasies of Hollywood. A high quality hypnosis session does not have any negative side effects!
 
Although many different aspects may provoke unfounded fears of hypnosis due to lack of comprehension, it is highly advisable to make your own experiences with hypnosis, which will enable you to draw your picture of hypnosis. Even celebrities and professional athletes have placed their trust in the impressive effect of hypnosis and hypnotherapy for decades.

Is hypnosis dangerous or are there dangers when using hypnosis?

There is no reason to be afraid of or intimidated by hypnosis. You will not be unconscious lose control, or be limited in your self-control. Quite to the contrary, you will remember everything and decide both the direction and the speed of the session. So, forget everything that you have ever seen on television or on stage about the topic of hypnosis.
 
High-quality hypnosis does not involve dangers or negative side effects. The opposite is true: hypnosis is very useful due to its relaxing effect. However, it is certainly possible that dangers could emerge within the context of the hypnosis session. Although they are not caused by hypnosis itself, they are related to the physical circumstances of the respective individual. These few contraindications require particular attention and should be clearly communicated to the hypnotist. To eliminate potential risks from the outset, important medical details will be requested and will be discussed with you during the preliminary conversation.
 
Make it a point of being hypnotized by only one person - a person whom you can really trust. Then, you can relaxingly engage in a hypnosis with a good conscious.

Am I at the mercy of the hypnotherapist?

No, you notice everything and are always in control of what is happening during a hypnosis. The difference to waking consciousness is that you are not bothered with the happenings around you. Your physical, mental and emotional relaxation has priority. Your consciousness remains present but not omnipresent. Both you and your hypnotherapist should want to engage in hypnosis; Both need to be in agreement about the goals of the session; And, most of all, you need to trust the abilities of your hypnotherapist.
 
Any suggestions and instructions by the hypnotherapist can have an effect if you want it to. Your ability of self-control and your own free will fully remain and are present throughout the entire hypnosis session— this is good. During a hypnosis, nobody is able to force you to do anything against your own will. There are two important requirements simultaneously: The result needs to be desirable and achievable. The subconscious mind does not accept anything the (analytical and critical) conscious mind does not approve of or wishes for.
 
These facts offer you security that a hypnosis session will automatically end — you will be immediately and fully wake — if a suggestion is beyond your personality structure. The conscious mind is indeed pushed aside but it will reactivate automatically any time something happens against your conviction, attitude to morality, your value system and your explicit will.

How do I recognize a qualified hypnotherapist?

As with many other professions, there can be huge differences between people who use hypnotherapy and who call themselves "hypnotherapists". There are master hypnotherapists; They are hypnosis experts who are highly trained, extremely experienced and have a broad depth of knowledge of hypnotherapy. Conversely, there are also individuals who use hypnotherapy incorrectly. This group may lack training, be poorly trained and be inexperienced people who claim to be hypnotherapists.

Clearly, the results of hypnotherapy, when used by a hypnotherapist who has little or no training and only limited experience, is likely to be far less effective than placing your trust into a skilled hypnosis expert. 
 
Principally, the following points are crucial when choosing a hypnotherapist:

General:

  • Personal trust in and "having a good feeling" about the hypnotherapist.
  • Open, loving and caring approach towards you as this will facilitate your healing.
  • The reduced usage of exaggerated technical terms. Often, this is a sign of the hypnotherapist’s helplessness to make a lasting change and a lack of knowledge about the real causes of the problems.
  • The hypnotherapist’s professional discretion for all information and occurrences during and after hypnosis towards third parties (except for criminal offense and imminent danger).

Qualification:

  • Profound qualification by renowned instructors.
  • Adequate experience in hypnotherapy.
  • Certification and membership registration by at least one major, international, renowned organization for hypnotherapy professionals.
     

Content:

  • Detailed pre-talk where you receive all important information regarding your own hypnotherapy session and where you get honest and competent answers to all of your questions.

  • The hypnotherapists ability to identify, process and resolve the acute, deeply buried individual problem in the subconscious mind, rather than simple work with suggestions or affirmations.

  • Encourage the client to take self-responsibility and to actively work on one's own behavior patterns.

  • Devise individually tailored client centric hypnosis sessions, rather than implementing an "off the shelf“ hypnosis approach.

Indeed, it is not easy to find an excellent and well-trained hypnotherapist. Often, the practitioner, as a person, is more significant than the implemented techniques. A very individual point-of-view helps in the search for the appropriate and suitable hypnotherapist.

Only when you have the feeling of being understood, and there is mutual trust, then sensational results can be achieved in your hypnosis session, which will then enrich your life.

What does hypnosis and trance feel like?

There are no "typical" feelings during a hypnosis or trance. Every person feels hypnosis and trance differently, which makes it for a very personal experience. Some people feel hypnosis as a deep physical and emotional relaxation combined with peace and feeling secure. Others perceive it as a euphoria or feeling at ease.

Most of the time clients describe a feeling of lightness and floating. Yet, others experience exactly the contrary: The body becomes heavy, and one has the feeling of sinking slowly and yet steadily. Almost all share the feeling of lethargy and notice a shift in perception of space and time.
 
After awakening, one usually feels peaceful, deeply relaxed, and rested.

Am I asleep or even unconscious during hypnosis?

No, hypnosis, respectively trance, has nothing to do with sleep, unconsciousness, a surrender of mental self-control, magic, voodoo, esotericism, etc.. During a hypnosis and a trance, you have still the ability to hear and understand everything, make yourself understood and respond authentically, etc.

Will I feel anything during the trance?

Yes, during a hypnosis, or respectively a trance, you have the ability to feel and sense just like during a waking state; You have access to your subconscious mind and, therefore, to your emotions. If certain suggestions are given during trance, you are indeed aware of these suggestions: e.g. "Your arms get heavy" — you will feel that in reality.
 
Depending on the sort of hypnosis session your experience, the level of emotions can vary during a session.

Will I speak about things in trance that I would not have revealed in waking state?

No, mutual trust is a central aspect during each client’s hypnosis session. Therefore, the well-trained and qualified hypnotherapist will only ask those questions that will help you achieve the goals that you set yourself beforehand, to solve your problems, or to learn more about yourself.
 
The answers may sometimes surprise even yourself: Why did you answer in a particular way and not in another way, or how did you arrive at this idea, etc. The reason for this is that during hypnosis your subconscious mind takes over control, and the usually dominant conscious mind takes a back seat somewhat.
 
During a trance, you will either talk about things or keep quiet just like in a waking state. Sometimes, it is even impossible to put into words the emotions and the experience during a hypnosis. You will always individually decide what information you are prepared to voluntarily reveal, and whether you will tell the truth, fantasize or lie, or even abstain from any comments. Ultimately, you should ask yourself why you have contacted a hypnotist for help.

Will I remember everything that happened in trance?

Yes, you are always in full control of what happens to you in hypnosis. You will most probably be able to recall everything that has happened and what you have experienced. Additionally, you will receive a digital audio recording of your hypnosis session so that you can bring every detail of your session back to mind anytime you want.

Will I awake definitively and safely after a hypnosis/trance?

Of course, there is not the slightest danger of not awaking. It is totally risk free to enter a trance and to return. You will "awake" as naturally as every morning.
 
This can be confirmed by scientific testing, which was publish as a scientific article. People were deliberately not aroused from hypnosis into a waking state. As a result of the continuous full control over themselves all test persons either emerged naturally of their own accord within a short period of time, or they fell asleep and woke up normally.
 
Additionally, the qualified hypnotherapist knows several effective methods to arouse the client smoothly from trance. Eventually, it is your own decision when you want to conclude your hypnosis session. The hypnotherapist will support you during the process.

Will I be fully operational after the hypnosis?

Plan some time for yourself after your hypnosis session, and use it to reflect on the experiences and impressions from your session. This is especially recommended after a somewhat longer, deeper, and more intensive regression. The best thing to do is go for a walk outdoors and let the experiences first sink in.

If at all possible, avoid driving a longer distance following the hypnosis session because you can expect a certain degree of tiredness due to the relaxing effect of the hypnosis. This also depends on the particular application. However, you will usually feel completely fit again after 15 minutes at most.

What are suggestions?

Suggestions are positively phrased words during a hypnosis to bring about your desired changes. Everybody has already experienced the power of words: How pleasant is praise and consolation, but how destructive and hurtful personal attack and insult can be. This indescribable strong power of words and its effect are particularly strong in this hypnotic state of relaxation. The subconscious mind will absorb these phrases, and you will act upon them because they are for your own benefit.
 
Suggestions are designed to focus our attention on what we want, and not on what we do not have. They are a true expression of what we already have within us that takes us in the direction we wish to go.

What are the advantages of suggestions?

The results of suggestions differ from person to person. The effects of a posthypnotic suggestion can endure several years without any brush-up. Some behavior patterns such as smoking or the kind of diet require several sessions to make a change. Sometimes a brush-up session will suffice after a longer break.

Suggestions are suitable in offering a first impression into the work of hypnosis. A sustainable effect in this type of session is not a priority. For a first impression, it is not necessary to undergo a trance; It also is not necessary for the individual to bring a readiness to tackle the emotional roots of their mental or health problems.

The majority of hypnotists only implement suggestions. This works well when you wish to emphasize something. For example, should the individual wish to change or eliminate a pattern of behavior, a sole usage of suggestions will not suffice. Without the initial research into the root of the problem and an explanation as to the subconscious’s defense of this behavior, suggestions are more often than not too unspecific and insufficiently hormic. For this reason, the search for the root of the problem should be the focus of the first session. Therefore, a Body Wisdom session would be suitable. In the following sittings, suggestions can be used in a purposefully used. Spiritual Hypnosis sessions can do without suggestions being that the search for the roots as well as deeper self-awareness, especially the connection between body, mind and soul, are central.

What will happen during the first hypnosis session?

Every first session begins with an extensive conversation in which we clarify your goals and motives. Then, I will explain to you in detail what hypnosis is and does and what you can expect from the following hypnosis. You will have the opportunity to ask all of your questions so that you can approach the actual session in a relaxed and optimistic way.
 
We will only start with inducing the hypnosis session once you are ready. In this process, you will be guided into a pleasant, relaxed state where we have access to the deeper layers of your consciousness (the subconscious mind and, in certain applications, also superconsciousness). This is where we work on the cause of your problem, strengthen your will, initiate changes, or set out on a journey into your soul's past.
 
If you would like a separate preliminary conversation, we can certainly do that. However, in general, this is very rarely necessary. Simply let me know, and we can adapt the session according to your wishes.

Why do the hypnosis sessions at Spiritual Hypnosis sometimes last longer than with other hypnosis coaches?

The less often that you need to come to me, the more successful the hypnotherapy is. The essence of every hypnosis session at Spiritual Hypnosis is discovering the cause of your individual problem and helping you to come to terms with your problem at all levels of being and resolve your problem. However, the identification of your individual problem requires time - and other hypnotists often do not take this time because they lack the required training.
 
So give yourself the time that you need to uncover the cause of your individual problem and appropriately understand it. We are only on the right path once you both grasp and also inwardly sense what you need to do for your issue to be conclusively resolved. Why is a single hypnosis session often enough?

Spiritual Hypnosis’s goal is to find the roots of your individual problem and unlock them. Once this has been unlocked, the symptoms that have manifested will collapse like a house of cards and disappear without any additional assistance from the hypnotist and/or hypnotherapist or yourself. A single hypnosis session is generally enough, as long as you feel the deep desire to come to peace with your past and make a change in your life.

Can I bring along a trusted person?

Yes, you may bring along someone whom you trust. But please think about whether you really want to do this. Experience has shown that a session often brings up very personal details that you generally do not want to share with everyone. However, should you clearly express this wish, you more than welcome to bring along a trusted person at any time. In any case, your hypnosis session will be recorded, and you will receive it as a reminder following your session, which you will be able to share with family, friends, and acquaintances.

How can I contribute to the success of a hypnosis session?

The most important element is bringing trust and openness with you to the hypnotherapist and the willingness to allow a new, enriching experience. Success is only possible if you are really ready to get involved in the hypnosis method.
 
Be yourself, allow things to happen, and enjoy this moment! You will be astonished at how well you feel after the hypnosis.

How can I prepare myself best for my hypnosis session?

Arrange for enough time so that you can calm and relaxed; You should not be in a rush or feel stressed. Wear comfortable clothes; Refrain from eating a heavy meal; Avoid drinking caffeinated beverages before your hypnosis session. Do not take medications unless there is an acute need or are instructed by your doctor. In order to keep a neutral atmosphere, please refrain from wearing perfumes.
 
For those wearing contact lenses who tend to eye irritation or for those who are hard of hearing and are used to reading lips, please note that, depending on the application of hypnosis, you will keep your eyes closed for at least 60 minutes.
